PROJECTS | Marin Wind RE Study

Wind Energy Resource Assessment

Objective: Conduct comprehensive wind resource assessment and financial analysis for potential wind power installations on Marin County ranches.

Result: A year-long study was performed that included installation of two 30-meter anemometer towers for wind measurement, modeling of available wind resources, preliminary siting for multiple medium-scale commercial turbines, and a financial analysis of various project alternatives.

Services: Wind data was collected from the ranch and nearby data points. Wind data and ranch topology were analyzed with computer modeling software to determine energy generation from the proposed turbines, conceptually site the devices and to develop visual simulations from different vantage points. The feasibility study included financial modeling that reviewed capital and operating costs, value of power produced, available federal and state incentives, and return on investment for the different project alternatives.
